Energy in Your Body: Energy & You #1

Dear Friend,

If your energy is your currency, how do you spend it? Who do you spend it with? Are you spending your energy with and on things that add to or deplete your energy stores? How you answer these questions may reveal if your energy flow is helping you grow!

We are all made up of energy. It’s our job, through embodiment, to understand and learn how we use, conserve, restore, and renew our energy throughout our lives.

Whether via technology or by feeling within our bodies, we are constantly reminded about our energy, how we expend it, and when we need to manage it.

It is essential to listen to the cues to learn what is building our energy, what is taking it away, and what our body needs to restore and grow energetically.

Mindfulness Activity of the Week

Feeling Into Ourselves

Energy is constant and ever-present in our bodies. We’ve learned that we can slow our minds down through mindfulness and movement. When we notice our thoughts, we can focus our energy in ways that serve us well. Let’s take a moment to feel into ourselves and quiet the mind.

  • Sit up tall and close your eyes.
  • Count to yourself as you take slow, steady breaths in and out.
  • When you reach 10, start over and repeat the process until your mind quiets down.

When in practice with your students, engage them in the following discussion points. You can also consider them for yourself!

  • What was your energy like before beginning the practice?
  • How and where did your energy show up in your body during the practice? Perhaps you felt fatigue, anxiety, curiosity, or excitement.
  • What was your energy like after the practice?
