Conscious Check-Ins – Self-Awareness Week 3

Dear Friend,

Over the past two weeks, we’ve explored how self-awareness begins with noticing what is happening within us and then naming our emotions without judgment. This week, we take that awareness a step further by noticing how our body and movement can influence our state of mind.

When students notice what they are experiencing, they can begin to recognize what they need, whether that’s stillness, grounding, movement, or a shift in energy, and choose a practice to help them feel more ready for the moment.

Here are three simple practices you can use with students to explore these shifts in real time:

MOVE  |  1 minute

Shake It Out: Shake hands and arms, shoulders, feet, ankles, and legs.

GROUND  |  1 minute

Place both feet on the floor and notice the support beneath you.
Spread your toes and feel your connection to the ground.
Relax your shoulders, neck, and head.

BREATHE  |  1 minute

Take 3–5 slow, comfortable breaths.

Then ask:

“What changed?”

Engage students in a conversation about what they noticed, whether it be a change in their energy, attention, emotions, or body. These small moments of awareness can help students build the skills to recognize what they need, respond intentionally and shift their state of mind.
