Summer Reset – Recovery is an active practice

Dear Friend,

Awake

Throughout the school year, your brain and body have worked tirelessly to teach, learn, adapt, and support others. Summer is an opportunity to notice how you feel after months of giving away your energy. Self-awareness begins by asking: What does my mind and body need to feel restored? Honoring that answer is the first step toward meaningful self-care.

Aware

Recovery is an essential part of well-being. When we rest, stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline begin to decrease, allowing the nervous system to shift from protection into restoration. As the brain slows down, calming neurotransmitters help reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, and create the conditions for healing, creativity, and reflection. Rest also replenishes the energy the brain needs for attention, memory, and learning, reminding us that recovery is active, not passive.

Align

Resetting your energy doesn’t require a full schedule—it requires intention. Quality sleep, mindful breathing, gentle movement, time in nature, meaningful relationships, journaling, and moments of stillness all help restore the brain and body. Allow yourself to release rigid routines, embrace unhurried moments, and create space for curiosity, creativity, and joy. When we spend less time doing and more time simply being, we reconnect with ourselves.

Activate

Summer Energy Reset

Take a few quiet moments to reflect:

  • What helped restore my energy this year?
  • What drained my energy?
  • How do I want to feel by the end of summer?
  • What three self-care practices will I intentionally make time for??

Choose one simple practice to begin today:

  • Sleep without an alarm.
  • Take a mindful walk outdoors.
  • Practice five minutes of conscious breathing.
  • Write in a journal.
  • Spend uninterrupted time with someone you love.
  • Sit quietly and simply notice the beauty around you.

Now Affirm

“I honor my well-being by making time to rest, restore, and recharge. Each mindful choice I make nourishes my mind, body, and spirit, creating the energy I need to live, learn, and thrive. Recovery is not the absence of growth; it’s where growth takes root!”
