Did you know that a deep sigh can return the autonomic nervous system from an over-activated sympathetic state to a more balanced parasympathetic state? Studies have shown this is your body’s natural way to release tension and reset your nervous system.

So, the next time you feel dysregulated or notice a sense of overwhelm or dysregulation in your students, try this exercise to help reset the nervous system.

Mindfulness Activity of the Week

Let’s Reset!

Breathe in fully, then breathe out fully allowing for a longer exhale. While exhaling, make a “ha” sound from deep within your abdomen. Repeat this exercise three times. How do you feel?

Movement Activity of the Week

Movement for Brain and Nervous System Health

Practice aligning your mind and body with movement for your brain and nervous system. The suggested time is one minute per pose, for three rounds. Bring awareness to your breath as you practice to help calm the brain, improve concentration, and enhance cognition.
