Energy in Your Body: Energy & Relationships

Dear Friend,

Do you remember the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Goldilocks preferred a bowl of neither cold nor warm porridge but “just right.” In life, we often strive for balance, for things that are “just right.” This is called the Goldilocks Principle.

The same goes for our energy. We strive for balance by approaching circumstances with just the right amount of oomph. Despite our best efforts, our energy is only sometimes balanced.

It’s up to you to demonstrate situational awareness and determine your energy level. When we approach the world with an understanding of how much energy is needed for a particular situation and exert energy that is “just right,” we can be most effective, protect our energy, and practice energetic self-care. This ability to notice, show up, and shift energetically takes practice. It is an art, not a science!

Mindfulness Activity of the Week

Tune In

Build a list of things that deplete your energy, give you energy, and personal values you are not willing to compromise on. It is common for our friends to take a lot of our energy. Notice when energy becomes out of balance, even in a relationship.

Where can you practice using your “yes” or “no” responses to consistently close the gaps between you and the values you want to live by? Take action each day to protect and support your energetic health.

Embodying Energetic Boundaries

Honoring your voice and choice of “yes” and “no” is essential to establishing a healthy, energetic self-care practice and energy containment. Energy containment refers to the boundary we set around our energy. These two words are critical tools for determining and maintaining energy boundaries.

Consider the following questions:

  1. When are you saying yes to things that do not serve your value set?
  2. When you say yes to things, what are you saying no to?
  3. How might you flip the script and honor your use of the word no?

It’s up to you to determine the energy level you want to put forth and practice energetic self-care. Practice using your words to honor your voice, values, and what serves you well.
