Our Approach
Where Research Meets Practice
Our work integrates the 4 A’s Teaching Philosophy, developed by Conscious Classroom, with research from the Compass Advantage framework, and CASEL’s Social Emotional Learning competencies.
The Compass Advantage Framework
Created by Marilyn Price-Mitchell, PhD
Conscious Classroom uses The Compass Advantage internal attributes as its outcomes framework, created by developmental psychologist Marilyn Price-Mitchell, PhD.
The Compass Advantage framework is designed to foster the development of a child’s mind, body, and spirit. Eight core attributes form an internal compass that helps kids become pilots of their own lives. Nutured by parents, teachers, and mentors, research suggests these competencies are the drivers of school, career, and life success.

CASEL 5 Framework
SEL as an Integral Part of Education
and Human Development
The CASEL 5 addresses five broad and interrelated areas of competence and highlights examples for each: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making. Many school districts, states, and countries have used the CASEL 5 to establish preschool to high school learning standards and competencies that articulate what students should know and be able to do for academic success, school and civic engagement, health and wellness, and fulfilling careers.

The 4 A's Philosophy
The 4 A’s is an intentional teaching philosophy designed to make learning active, embodied, and meaningful. By framing content into Awake, Aware, Align, and Activate, we guide educators and students to learn and experience concepts through mind–body practice.
This approach helps students and teachers carry these practices forward, creating positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.
Awake.
Open your mind with a practice that awakens your senses.
Aware.
Enhance your awareness, deepen your knowledge, expand your mindset.
Align.
Align your mind and your body through physical practice.
Activate.
Activate and embody what you have learned in your daily routine.
“Give the students something to do, not something to learn;
and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.”
– John Dewey
